The Wild Bunch Starts the Season with Talent and Energy

WELLESLEY, Mass.–The Smith College swim and dive team took third place with 130 points at the Betty Spears Relays, hosted by Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon.

Jenika Parson won the three meter diving competition, while Alexis-Clair Roehrich finished second in the one meter dive to lead the way for the Pioneers, who were competing against the hosts Wellesley, local rival Mt. Holyoke, and MASCAC foe Westfield State University.  Parson also finished fourth in the one meter dive, while Roerich added a third place finish in the three meter.

Lauren KauffmanRachael GainerEmma Reim, and Mackenzie Bradley formed the relay team that finished second in the 500 yard crescendo with a time of 5:13.99, and the foursome of Lily SeidmanVictoria WuLenora Walter, and Lauren Kauffman added a third place finish (2:01.94) in the 200 yard medley relay, with Kauffman blistering the final leg in 27.10 seconds.

Bradley and Reim joined forces with Robin Currens and Rebecca Rosen for a second place finish in the 800 yard freestyle, just .13 seconds out of first place with a time of 8:37.21. Smith also took third and fifth place in the 300 yard breaststroke relay, with the trio of Ariel OrrReyna Levine, and Victoria Wu finishing third with a 3:50.68 time, and Jenny PrinceGenesis Luviano, and Christina Goethel finishing fifth in 4:04.58.

Wellesley won the meet, with a team score of 282, while Mt. Holyoke totaled 158 points to finish in second place.  Westfield State rounded out the competition in fourth place with 60 points.  For full results, please go here.

Smith will return to the comfortable confines of Dalton Pool next weekend, when they host Springfield College on November 13 at 1 p.m. in their home opener.
