Swimming & Diving Win at Home Against MHC

At the last home meet of the season Smith beat Mount Holyoke College 167-133. Before the meet Coach Kim Bierwert and team honored the following seniors: Rachel Dorset(Stratford, CT), Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, MA), Adrienne Klein (Shrewsbury, MA), and Faith Latella (Douglstown, NY).Graduate student and Assistant Coach Marlene Pineda is also in her final year at Smith. All graduating members of the team and coaching staff have made great contributions to the team and will be missed greatly next year.

Mount Holyoke College proved to be good competition for the Pioneers, but Smith’s tenacity and skill were too much for the visiting team.

Smith took first and second place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle and first, second, and third in the 500 Yard Freestyle.  Bradley Mackenzie (Sherwood, Oregon) took first place in both events with a time of 11:33.28 and 5:37.60.  Sophie Mettler-Grove (Syracuse, NY) had a season best in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, beating her previous time by 14 seconds (12:59.95).  Dzialo and Emma Reim (Ledyard, CT) dominated the 200 Yard Freestyle securing first and second place for their team (2:04.85, 2:06.09).

In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Sarah Tucker (Pittsfield, MA) had a season best time of 1:09.97 and in the 100 Yard Breaststroke Ariel Orr (Richmond, VA) had a liftetime best (1:13.62).  Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN) had an impressive day, taking first place in the 100 & 200 Yard Butterfly (1:03.06, 2:19.99).

The Pioneers continue to dominate diving events.  Isabelle Harper (South Deerfield, MA) placed first in both the 1M and 3M dive (195.35, 216.40) proving to be a strong and consistent athlete.
