Swimming and Diving Defeats Mount Holyoke 156-137

Northampton, MA: With 9 first-place finishes and 7 second-place finishes the Smith College swimming and diving team defeated Mount Holyoke College, 156-137, this afternoon in a dual meet in South Hadley, MA. With the win the Pioneers improve their dual meet record to 4-3 on the season, while the Lyons drop to 3-6.

Lily Seidman ’11 (Westfield, IN) took first-place finishes in the 200 yard butterfly (2:21.01), the 100 yard butterfly (1:04.11), and the 200 yard IM (2:21.19) to help her team get the win. Christine Dzialo ’10 (Belchertown, MA) took two first-place finishes for the Pioneers in the 500 yard freestyle (5:45.03) and the 200 yard freestyle (2:05.06). Lenora Walter ’11 (Santa Ynez, CA) also led all swimmers in two events with first-place finishes in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.19) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:19.02).

Alexis Roerich ’11 (Eau Claire, WI) led all divers in 3 meter and 1 meter diving with scores of 268.85 and 231.80 respectively.

Taking second-place finishes for the Pioneers were Dzialo 100 in the yard freestyle (58.39), Rebecca Rosen ’12 (Harrington Park, NJ) in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:30.31) and the 200 yard butterfly (2:45.62), Francesca Kotey ’09 (Gainsville, FL) in the 50 yard freestyle (26.41), and Jenny Prince ’12 (Ardsley, NY) in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:55.38). Smith also placed second in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:08.75. Swimming for Smith were Walter, Prince, Kotey, and Charlotte Mailly ’12 (West Hartford, CT).

Swimming and Diving will be back in action February 20-22 as MIT hosts the NEWMAC Championships.
