Christine Dzialo was named athlete of the week for her OUTSTANDING (all 23 of them) performances this past weekend in the Pioneer Valley Invitational. The Xterminator accepted the personal challenge of swimming in the 23 events open for swimmers on Saturday. In addition to being a member of the third place 200 free and 200 medley relay teams she finished 18th in the 50 back, 13th in the 500 free, 25th in the 50 fly, 14th in the 200IM, 12th in the 50 free, 20th in the 200 back, 10th in the 200 fly, 7th in the 400 medley relay, 26th in the 50 back, 6th in the 400IM, 20th in the 100 fly, 7th in the 200 free, 8th in the 100 back, 6th in the 25 free and 6th in the 100 free.

Swimmers and divers from Smith, Wellesley, Westfield State and Mount Holyoke competed Saturday in the annual non-team scoring Pioneer Valley Invitational held at Mount Holyoke College. Our very own Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, MA) competed in all 23 swimming events. Dzialo accepted the personal challenge of swimming in the 23 events open for swimmers. In addition to being a member of the third place 200 free and 200 medley relay teams she finished 18th in the 50 back, 13th in the 500 free, 25th in the 50 fly, 14th in the 200IM, 12th in the 50 free, 20th in the 200 back, 10th in the 200 fly, 7th in the 400 medley relay, 26th in the 50 back, 6th in the 400IM, 20th in the 100 fly, 7th in the 200 free, 8th in the 100 back, 6th in the 25 free and 6th in the 100 free.
Other team highlights include Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN) winning four individual events and was a member of the winning 400 free relay team. Seidman won the 200 IM (2:19.99), 200 back (2:19.59), 100 back (1:05.45), 100 free (58.05) and along with Michelle Mai (Paris, France), Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, OR) and Dzialo, won the 400 free relay in 3:56.94. She finished second in the 100 fly (1:02.37) and was a member of the 200 free and 400 medley relays that placed second. Mai finished won the 25 yd. backstroke (15.26) eliminator, was 4th in three events - the 200 IM (2:27.15), 200 back (2:23.43) and 100 back (1:08.01); second in the 100 back (1:06.45) and was on the 400 medley relay team. First year Ariel Orr (Richmond, VA) took fourth in the 50 breaststroke (34.07), third in the 25 yd. breaststroke (16.51), fifth in the 200 breast (2:48.16), third in the 100 breast (1:16.85) and was on the 400 medley and 200 medley relay that finished third in 2:03.40. Emma Reim (Ledyard, CT) placed second in the 500 free (5:33.48) while Alexandra Page (Brookline, MA) finished 5th in both the 200 back (2:27.19) and 400 IM (5:22.97) and fourth in the 100 back (1:08.01). She was also a member of the 200 medley relay. In addition to her first place finish on the 400 free relay team, Bradley took 4th in both the 500 free (5:42.07) and 400 IM (5:18.64). She was also a member of the 400 medley relay team.
Our divers also had a great meet with Isabelle Harper (South Deerfield, MA) placed third on both the one and three-meter boards with 190.05 and 176.15 points respectively. Amanda Lineweber (Suffield, CT) and Karen Fryefield (Eugene, OR) each placed 5th respectively in the one and three-meter diving events.
The Wild Bunch will return to action Saturday, January 16th when they travel to Wellesley College for a 1 pm meet.
Just a reminder that we will be taking our team pictures tomorrow, Dec. 1st at 6:00pm. YOU WILL NEED TEAM SUIT, WARMUP JACKET AND PANTS AND MAYBE PARKA for the photos. We will be taking individual head and shoulder shots as well as a team photo. The photo session will begin at 6:00 pm, so we will need to get out of the 4:15 practice a bit early in order to do the photo session.

Emma Reim and Mackenzie Bradley Continue Swimming & Diving athlete of the week streak
First-years Emma Reim (Ledyard, CT) and Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, OR) were named co-athletes of the week for their outstanding performances in our meet against Westfield State University. Emma won the 200 free in 2:06.83, was second in the 100 fly and finished 1st in the 500 free with a lifetime best time of 5:34.66. Mackenzie won the 1000 free in her lifetime best time of 11:36.52. She also finished 2nd in the 500 free with a season best time of 5:40.12.

With Thanksgiving break coming up it is critical that you continue to train and stay in shape. Over this next week you should train 4 times in including the workouts you get in tomorrow or Tuesday. WE cannot go a week with no workouts and expect it to be productive. Every team faces this problem and about 2/3 of the NE teams save this week as we are doing. It is up to us to use this time as effectively as possible. If you cannot find water, you should do weight room workouts (1 1/2 hrs in duration) including some aerobic work, some light weight-high repetition work and lots of core work.
The pool is open today 11:30-2:00 pm.There will be open swims/dives on Monday and Tuesday 4-6 pm. There will be swimmers and divers and maybe a few recreational swimmers at these time.
For swimmers you want to get in 4500-5500 yards each water session. You can find many workouts here on the blog, and some laminated in the pool area on the wall.
A general plan is to have two days including hard aerobic (limited rest/tight interval) work with a set of 2,000-3,000 yards and two days of workouts that include 1200 yards total of race pace swimming using the smallest interval possible to achieve race pace times.
All workout should include stroke/fell work and all workouts should include kicking. Also continue with core and strength work as well. if you need more specific workout ideas, let Kim or I know and we’ll send you some more ideas.
For divers, IF you can find access to boards, clearly do 3-5 of each dive and leadups. Do lots of approaches/take-offs and skill drills (standing dives, board touches, jumps tuck/pike/t-set). Also continue with core and strength work as well.

We hosted Westfield State on Saturday, with a final score of 179-121 win. While our two teams appeared evenly matched on paper, the Bananas brought outstanding energy to the meet, which allowed us to win many tightly contested races.
We had many season and lifetime best marks en route to winning 11 of 16 events. A few of the highlights were junior Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN) winning three individual events, taking the 100 yard butterfly in 1:03.55, 50y butterfly in 28.70, and the 200y IM in 2:22.00. First-years Michelle Mai (Paris, France), Emma Reim (Ledyard, CT), and Ariel Orr (Richmond, VA) each won two events. Mai won the 100y backstroke (1:06.36) and the 200y backstroke (2:22.79). Reim won the 200y freestyle (2:06.83) and the 500y freestyle in a lifetime best 5:34.66. Orr won the 100y breaststroke (1:18.09) and the 200y breaststroke in a lifetime best of 2:49.08.
First-year Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, OR) won the 1000y freestyle in 11:36.52, while seniors Rachel Dorset (Stratford, CT ) and Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, MA) placed third and fourth respectively. Dzialo shaved 14 seconds off her season best. Dzialo swam the rare double, coming back to place third in the 50y freestyle in 27.29. Sophomore Alex Page (Brookline, MA) collected three season best times, finishing second in the 100y backstroke (1:08.53), second in the 200y backstroke (2:28.06), and second in the 200y IM (2:29.74). Sophomore Jenny Prince (Ardsley, NY) placed second in the 200y breaststroke with her lifetime best of 2:51.33. Sophomore Sophie Mettler-Grove (Syracuse, NY) posted a lifetime best of 6:18.47 in the 500y freestyle to place sixth.
Our divers, first-year Isabelle Harper (South Deerfield, MA), sophomore Karen Fryefield (Eugene, OR), junior Amanda Lineweber (Suffield, CT) and senior Genevieve Cheng (Austin, TX) also had a great meet and all posted season best marks.

Junior Lily Seidman (Westfield, Indiana) had an outstanding meet with three individual event wins against Eastern Connecticut State University. Lily won the the 200 free (2:06.24), the 100 free (58.08) and 100 fly (1:04.39). She also helped the medley relay team come from behind to almost pull off an upset.

We had a great home opener last night against Elms College. Our first-place finishers were Rachel Dorset ‘10 (Stratford, CT) in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:14.98) and the 500 yard freestyle (6:05.65), Emma Reim ‘13 (Ledyard, CT) in the 200 yard freestyle (2:00.79), Sarah Tucker ‘13 (Pittsfield, MA) in the 100 yard backstroke (1:10.48), Faith Latella ‘10 (Douglas, NY) in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.99), Lily Seidman ‘11 (Westfield, IN) in the 200 yard backstroke (2:20.50), and Michelle Mai ‘13 (Paris, France) in the 50 yard butterfly (29.64).
Christine Dzialo ‘10 (Belchertown, MA) returned to the pool tonight after just two days of concluding her cross country season and swam a strong race in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing second place to teammate Dorset.
Sophie Mettler-Grove ‘12 (Syracuse, NY) had a career best time of 6:22.35 in the 500 yard freestyle.
Reim’s first place spot in the 200 yard freestyle was also a season best.
Finally, our very own Isabelle Harper ‘13 (South Deerfield, MA) took first place in both the 1 meter diving (189.75) and 3 meter diving (160.60) events.
